Pennies from Heaven

September 1, 2005, the morning my much loved mother in law, Helen, passed away, our extended family decided to meet at our home for breakfast.  Totally devastated at losing Mom, I left Hospice and headed home.  As I walked to our front door, the bush to the left of our door was covered in beautiful yellow butterflies!  I had never seen so many butterflies gathered in one place.  What a beautiful gift of love and connection to Mom in Spirit.

About 6 months later, I was upstairs with my daughters looking at Mom’s fabrics.  Helen loved doing hand crafts, and we brought a great deal of her excess fabrics home.  As we sorted the fabrics we laughed remembering many of the things that we loved and missed about Grandma.

My eye happened to go to the window, and outside hovering by the second story window was beautiful yellow butterfly. Awwww, thank you for this moment of love and healing!

I equate certain symbols with people I love that have passed on. As Helen sends butterflies, Sylvia’s husband Cliff sends dragonflies. My father in law, Bob, brings wind shaking through aspen leaves, or Quakies, as he called them.

My dear friend Sylvia sends coins. Shortly after her death she sent dimes. I was finding dimes daily for the first two months after she passed. Apparently inflation has struck everywhere, and now she simply leaves me pennies or nickels. It is all good.  Finding a coin brings a smile to my face, a tear to my eye, and helps me to remember Sylvia and the connection that we still share.
